March 25 (SeeNews) - Romania's government will approve a non-reimbursable aid of 100 million euro ($110 million) to Moldova, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Friday.
"The aid plays a key role in supporting Moldova's efforts for sustainable development, for reform and staying on the European path," Ciuca said ahead of a government meeting.
The non-reimbursable aid will support bilateral cooperation in energy, transport, environmental protection, climate change, public works and infrastructure. Also, it will back small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), media independence, public administration reform, health, education, culture, research and tourism.
The financial assistance will be granted for a period of seven years, with an option for extension by up to three years, the government said in February.
A similar agreement with Romania that expired in March 2021 helped Moldova support projects such as the rehabilitation and modernisation of over 1,000 kindergartens and schools and the development of the gas pipeline connecting Romania's Iasi to Chisinau.
On Thursday, the European Parliament (EP) said it will provide 150 million euro in macro-financial aid to Moldova to help it cover part of its external financing needs.
