October 9 (SeeNews) - Romanian state-owned flag carrier TAROM has reported a 12% annual drop in the number of passengers it carried in January-August this year to 1.029 million, the Association of European Airlines (AEA) said on Friday.
TAROM’s average occupancy rate was 54.4% through August, down 9.4 percentage points from a year ago, AEA said in a report.
In August alone, TAROM transported 166,300 passengers, 4.9% less than a year ago. The occupancy rate for the month was 67.6%, 4.3 percentage points lower than in August 2008.
AEA is the organisation of 33 European carriers which transport collectively 366 million passengers and 7 million tonnes of cargo each year. They operate 2,600 aircraft serving 662 destinations in 162 countries with a combined 11,585 flights a day.
