SOFIA (Bulgaria), April 10 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria and Romania recorded the highest number of road fatalities relative to their respective population among EU member states in 2017, the European Commission said on Tuesday.
In Romania, road traffic victims numbered 98 per million inhabitants in 2017, up 1% year-on-year, the Commission said in a road safety statistical report, citing preliminary data.
Bulgaria followed with 96 road fatalities per million inhabitants last year, a 4% decrease compared to 2016.
The average number of road deaths per million inhabitants in the EU fell by an annual 2% to 49 per million last year.
In Croatia this share was 80 victims per million people, while in Slovenia it was 50 road fatalities per million inhabitants.
