The number of locations which will use solar energy is expected to increase further during the second stage of the investment programme, which will run until 2026.
The first communications centre equipped with solar panels is located in the southeastern city of Constanta and has a total output of 118 kWp. The installed panels can reduce by 80% the required hourly energy consumption of the centre, according to the company.
"In 2022, we increased the value of investments in our networks, and they will exceed 200 million euro annually. However, our investments are not only focused on the quality of the networks, but also on reducing and optimising energy consumption through the use of renewable sources," Orange Romania CTO Marius Maican said.
In 2021, telecommunications provider Orange Romania booked a net profit of approximately 597 million lei ($120.6 million/121.5 million euro), data from the finance ministry's website shows. At end-2021, the company employed 2,377.
