PODGORICA (Montenegro), May 18 (SeeNews) – Montenegro's Podgorica city government launched a 50 million euro ($54 million) project to build a wastewater treatment system, the mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vukovic, said on Monday.
"With a total value of 50 million euro, this project has four components - a primary collector with a length of over 5 kilometres whose construction begins today, 20 kilometres of sewerage network, with which we will officially start tomorrow and a new bridge on the Moraca river, which we expect to begin to build in the next two months. The construction of the wastewater treatment plant itself is planned for the beginning of next year," Vukovic said in a statement.
The project will be financed through a 35 million euro loan from German development bank KfW and a 10 million euro grant provided by the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), Vukovic said.
In February, the Podgorica city government signed a 6.6 million euro contract for the construction of a wastewater collector with local company Bemax. The collector will have a total length of 5.5 km and will connect the existing Podgorica wastewater treatment plant to a similar facility that the city government will build.
