June 9 (SeeNews) - Montenegro plans to launch a tender for allocating frequencies in the 5G spectrum in the second half of 2022, economic development minister Goran Djurovic said.
"Test 5G networks have already been installed in Montenegro, and in the second half of the year an auction for 5G frequencies will be held," Djurovic said in a video file posted on the website of public broadcaster RTCG on Wednesday.
Montenegro is the leader in the Western Balkans in terms of 5G network implementation, Djurovic said.
Last month, Montenegro's national telecommunications regulator, EKIP, said it approved draft documentation for a tender for allocating frequencies in the 700 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz bands.
The regulator launched public consultations on the draft documentation, inviting interested parties to submit their comments, opinions and suggestions by July 8. The adoption of the documentation is expected in September.
In December, EKIP said it approved bids placed by Mtel, Crnogorski Telekom and Telenor Montenegro in a public auction for allocation of national frequency licences for 5G mobile networks held on December 27. Mtel won frequencies in the 900 MHz, 1.8 GHz, 2 GHz and 2.6 GHz bands, while Crnogorski Telekom and Telenor Montenegro secured frequencies in the 2.6 GHz spectrum.
