PODGORICA (Montenegro), November 18 (SeeNews) – The Montenegrin government said on Monday that the 18 million euro ($20 million) project for the construction of a cableway between the Podvrh monastery and the Djalovica cave has been launched.
The start of the project was marked by the installation of the first elements of the cableway by Podgorica-based company Novi Volvox, which has been awarded a 3.9 million euro contract to build the 1.7-kilometre long cableway, the government said in a statement.
The installation of the cableway is expected to be completed in the second half of 2020, with the journey between the two locations to take around six minutes, the statement said.
The project also includes the construction of a 1.2 million euro power substation for the needs of the cableway, as well as an access road from the nearby village of Bistrica to the Podvrh monastery worth some 4.5 million euro.
The government said that the project is among its priorities for 2020.
Last year, Montenegro signed a 12 million euro contract with Italian company Leitner to produce the equipment and draw the design of the Podvrh monastery-Djalovica cave cableway and of another cableway in the Cmiljaca mountain.
Both cableways will be located in Montenegro's mountainous northeast.
