December 21 (SeeNews) - The industrial output of Moldova's breakaway region of Transdniestria fell by an annual 34.6% in January-November, Transdniestria's Economy Ministry said on Monday.
The region's industrial production totalled $645.1 million (450 million euro) in the period, the ministry said in a statement.
The output of the power generating sector rose by 93.2% to $254 million through November. The output of the region's main industrial sector, ferrous metallurgy, fell by an annual 62.6% to $168.7 million.
Transdniestria is located on the eastern bank of the River Dniestr in eastern Moldova. It broke away from Moldova in 1990 as its largely Slavic, pro-Russian population feared that the country's Romanian-speaking majority would unite with neighbouring Romania.
