February 2 (SeeNews) - Moldova’s parliament said on Thursday that it is extending by 60 days as of February 4 the state of emergency enforced in February following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The state-of-emergency resolution was approved by 60 lawmakers out of the 61 present in the 101-seat parliament, according to figures published on the parliament's website.
The decision was driven by the persistent risks and threats against national security and Moldova’s supply of energy resources during the cold season.
"The state of emergency has allowed us to properly welcome hundreds of thousands of people fleeing the war and to continue providing good living, working and education conditions for refugees who have decided to remain in Moldova," prime minister Natalia Gavrilita said ahead of the vote, as shown in a live broadcast.
Moldova has been in a state of emergency since Russia began the military invasion of Ukraine, on February 24.
