November 11 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Macedonia 4.3% on the year to 701,168 in the first nine months of 2016, the country's statistics office said on Friday.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in the January-September period rose 2.3% year-on-year to 2.13 million.
Domestic tourists numbered 289,139, up 4.8%, whereas international visitors increased by 4% to 412,029.
In September alone, the total number of tourists staying in Macedonia rose 6.1% year-on-year to 84,018, while overnights increased 7% to 197,122.
The number of domestic tourists jumped 22.7% on the year to 23,020, and foreign tourists visiting Macedonia ticked up 0.9% to 60,998.
Of the total number of foreign tourists in September, 23.2% came from Turkey, Serbia followed with 7.8%, and the Netherlands came third with 7.4%.
