SKOPJE (Macedonia), September 11 (SeeNews) – Macedonia and Serbia have pledged swift completion of their sections of transport corridor X and announced they will sign road, railway and air transport agreements as early as next month.
Corridor X should be built in line with the relevant EU requirements with a railway component consisting of an electrified double rail track that will accommodate speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour on the Serbian side and up to 120 kilometres per hour on the Macedonian side, Serbian Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the government in Skopje after his meeting with Macedonian Transport Minister Mile Janakieski in Belgrade on Thursday.
The ministers co-signed a declaration on joint participation in road, railway and air transport projects.
According to Janakieski, the road transport agreement, which is expected to be signed in October, would enable complete liberalisation of the transport of passengers and goods between the two neighboring countries.
Pan-European corridor X links western Europe with Greece over land. It stretches 2,360 kilometres across eight countries, including Serbia and Macedonia.
