December 9 (SeeNews) - Greek telecoms systems developer Intracom Telecom said on Wednesday it has signed a 3.5 million euro ($5.2 million) contract to improve the high-speed broadband technology of Serbia's state-owned fixed-line monopoly.
“Within the framework of this agreement, Intracom Telecom will supply the specific equipment to Telekom Srbija, enabling them to support the deployment of broadband services such as Internet connectivity, Voice over IP telephony and IPTV, thus creating a portfolio lined-up of genuine triple-play advanced services, “ the Greek company said in a statement.
The project is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2009, it added.
Telekom Srbija (www.telekom.rs) is the sole provider of fixed-line services on its home market. It also controls some 70% of the domestic mobile services market through its MTS unit.
Telekom Srbija is the majority owner of the second-largest telecoms company in neighbouring Bosnia, Telekom Srpske.
Intracom Telecom (www.intracom-telecom.com) is majority owned by Russia's Sitronics, a provider of telecommunications, information technology and microelectronic solutions, and employs 2,700.
