February 15 (SeeNews) - In 2020, foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia plunged 68% year-on-year to 5.55 million, due to the coronavirus crisis, the country's statistical office said.
In December alone foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia decreased by 93% year-on-year, to 15,690, the statistical office said in a statement last week.
Foreign tourists spent 82,174 overnights in Croatia in December, down by 84% year-on-year.
Domestic tourists numbered 46,770 in December, down 65%, as they spent 101,793 overnights, down 60%.
Tourists from the U.S. accounted for 15% of all overnight stays spent by international visitors to Croatia in December, followed by tourists from Germany with a 12% share.
Tourism is a key driver for the Croatian economy, contributing a fifth of the country's GDP.
