March 25 (SeeNews) - The European Union is designing a 50 million euro ($54 million) programme to support Montenegro in coping with the impact of the coronavirus crisis, the EU ambassador to Montenegro, Aivo Orav, said on Wednesday.
The programme will be prepared in cooperation with the Montenegrin government and will support mostly the health sector, the economy and businesses, Orav said in his Twitter account.
In addition, the EU is providing 3 million euro for immediate help to the Montenegrin health sector, Orav said.
"We will also speed up ongoing projects like the 18 million euro joint programme for employment, education and social welfare to help small businesses, unemployed and vulnerable people and explore other options," Orav said in a separate tweet on Wednesday.
Montenegro has so far confirmed 52 cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including one death. The country has closed its borders to foreign nationals to prevent the spread of the disease on its territory.
