November 20 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said on Friday that it has approved two Romanian schemes worth a total 14.1 million euro ($16.7 billion) in support of wine producers and airlines operating at Sibiu airport that were affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The schemes were approved under the state aid temporary framework adopted by the Commission, the EU's executive body said in a press release.
Under the first scheme, over 1,000 wine producers will receive 12.4 million euro in the form of direct subsidies in order to meet their liquidity needs.
Direct subsidies will not exceed 100,000 euro per wine producer.
The scheme will apply until the end of 2020.
Under the second scheme, 1.7 million euro will be provided to airlines starting or resuming operations at Sibiu airport.
The aid will not exceed 800,000 euro per company and will be granted before June 30 2021.
Located in the central part of the country, Sibiu Airport plays an important role in terms of regional and international connectivity of the country, according to the Commission.
