SKOPJE (Macedonia), November 16 (SeeNews) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to provide between 100 million and 150 million euro ($149.5 million-$224 million) to back projects in Macedonia next year, the Macedonian Finance Ministry said.
The EBRD funding will target mainly infrastructure, gasification and energy projects, the ministry announced in a statement, quoting Macedonian Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski as saying after meeting with an EBRD delegation in Skopje on Friday.
Stavreski said the EBRD financial commitment will include 18 million euro for the upgrade of a railway section part of Pan-European Corridor X that links Western Europe with Greece over land, the statement said.
Securing financial backing from the EBRD for the construction of a railway part of Corridor VIII that connects Macedonia with neighboring Bulgaria and Albania was also discussed at the meeting, the statement added, providing no further details.
EBRD has committed more than 506 million euro to over 40 projects in Macedonia since 1993. The bank’s investments have attracted additional financing worth more than 620 million euro, EBRD said earlier.
