February 5 (SeeNews) - Croatia's northern municipality of Pitomaca has signed a contract for an EU grant of 149 million kuna it will use to co-finance a 262 million kuna ($39 million/35 million euro) wastewater project, the environment ministry said.
The contract was signed on February 4, with the EU funding covering 71% of total project costs eligible for financing, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The remaining 60 million kuna of the eligible project costs will be covered by the environment ministry, state-owned water supply company Hrvatske Vode and the Pitomaca municipality.
The project includes an upgrade of the municipality's wastewater treatment plant that will increase its purification capacity will increase to handling 9,000 inhabitants, the ministry said.
Thanks to the project, 85% of the local population will be connected to the water supply system and 86% of the population will gain access to the sewerage system on the territory of the Pitomaca municipality.
