January 27 (SeeNews) - Dubrovnik's port expects to welcome 354 cruise ships and more than 6,000 passengers in 2021, Blaz Pezo, director of the Dubrovnik Port Authority, said, as quoted by local media.
The industry could recover from June 1 but this will depend on the epidemiological situation, news wire SeeBiz cited Pezo as saying on Tuesday during a discussion on tourist taxes for cruise ships.
As of January 1, the city of Dubrovnik started collecting tourist tax from cruise ships in international maritime traffic and international traffic in inland waters, when moored or anchored at the port.
The city expects 14 million kuna ($2.25 million/1.85 million euro) in tourist tax from cruisers in 2021, local daily Dubrovacki Vjesnik quoted Dubrovnik mayor Mato Frankovic as saying on Tuesday.
Croatia's Adriatic ports registered only 26 journeys of foreign vessels in the January-November period, down 87% on the year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the national statistical office said earlier in January. Some 85% of these trips were reported in the county of Dubrovnik-Neretva.
