June 15 (SeeNews) - The Croatian government said it will shortly launch a public call for investors interested in reconstructing the abandoned Czech Villa on the island of Vis and transforming it into a four- or more star hotel.
The project will include the reconstruction of nearby long-standing buildings, as well as the construction of new accommodations units and catering facilities, the government said in a statement following its weekly session on Wednesday.
The government plans to grant the best bidder a right to build for a period of up to 50 years, during which it is estimated to earn at least 84.3 million kuna ($12.7 million/11.4 million euro).
The Czech Villa has a long history, having served many purposes over the years, most recently as a military base for the Yugoslav People's Army in the 1990's. The complex of some 80,000 sq m has, however, stood empty for the past 20 years.
