January 3 (SeeNews) - Croatia’s state-owned motorway management company Hrvatske Autoceste (HAC) has opened a public tender with an estimated value of 600,000 euro ($656,000) for the design and project documentation for a second bridge from the mainland to the northern Adriatic island of Krk.
The 850-metre bridge will be built close to an existing one, in the Omisalj municipality, in response to growing traffic, especially during the high tourist season, HAC explained in a public procurement notice published on Tuesday.
Besides the bridge itself, the project envisages the construction an access road with a link to the A7 motorway, a road junction, a viaduct of some 900 metres, an access road to the airport on Krk, and a 740-metres tunnel, with a total length of seven kilometres.
The route and access points of the planned bridge are defined in the urban plan of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar country.
The deadline for submission of bids is January 29. The works covered by the tender should be completed in three years.
Krk is one of Croatia’s largest islands. It is linked via a bridge to the A7 motorway on the mainland.
Krk is a major tourism destination. It is also the location of a terminal for crude oil and oil products and storage facilities operated by oil pipeline operator Janaf [ZSE: JNAF] and a liquefied natural gas terminal terminal.
