July 8 (SeeNews) - China Railway International (CRI) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) plan to complete the overhaul of the Belgrade-Stara Pazova section of the Belgrade-Budapest railway six months ahead of schedule, the director of Serbian railway infrastructure company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije, Miroljub Jevtic, said.
"The Chinese partners said that they will complete the project six months before the agreed schedule, as we had agreed that the overhaul would last 36 months," Jevtic said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug on Saturday.
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije is also satisfied with the pace of the reconstruction works on the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section of the railway line, carried out by Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International, Jevtic said.
Last month, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said Serbia plans to launch the reconstruction of the Novi Sad-Subotica section of the railway linking Belgrade to Hungary's Budapest in 2020.
In November 2017, Serbia started modernising the section of the railway line linking Belgrade to Budapest on its territory. The overhaul represents the first cross-border project carried out by Serbia, Hungary and China in the framework of the China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) cooperation initiative.
