September 16 (SeeNews) - State-owned group Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is interested in a project for construction of an airport in Trebinje, in southern Bosnia, local media reported.
AVIC has expressed interest in in partnering up with the government of Bosnia's Serb Republic entity for the construction of the airport, news website EX-YU Aviation reported over the .
The company first expressed interest in the project in 2010 and last month met with representatives of the entity's government to discuss potential investment, the media reported.
AVIC plans to assess the suitability of a site at Rapti Zupci, a village some 5 km south of Trebinje, for the construction of the airport.
According to an earlier plan, the airport should be designed to handle 260,000 passengers per year and to have a 2.6 km long runway.
The Serb Republic is one of two autonomous entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Federation.
