May 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.6% in the first quarter of 2020 from 5.0% in the comparable period of last year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday.
Youth unemployment (age bracket 15-29 years), edged up to 7.9% in the first three months of 2020 from 7.8% in the comparable quarter of 2019, NSI said in a quarterly labour force survey.
The long-term unemployment rate (people who have been without a job for more than a year) was 2.3%, or 74,500 people .
The employment rate among people aged 15 to 64 fell 0.2 percentage points year-on-year to 68.1% in the first quarter of 2020. The share of economically active people aged 15-64 decreased by 0.5 pp to 71.2%.
There were 1.3 million economically inactive people aged 15-64 in the first quarter, or 28.6% of the population in this age group.
