April 21 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's general government sector recorded a deficit of 4.65 billion levs ($2.6 billion/2.4 billion euro) in 2022, equivalent to 2.8% of the gross domestic product (GDP) for last year, the statistical office said on Friday, citing preliminary data.
The deficit in the central government sub-sector amounted to 4.46 billion levs, or 2.7% of GDP, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a data release.
Bulgaria's government debt totalled 37.85 billion levs at end-2022 which is equivalent to 22.9% of GDP,
This was the second-lowest government debt to GDP ratio in the EU, after Estonia with 18.4%, figures published separately by Eurostat showed.
Government debt to GDP ratio in the EU stood at 84% at the end of 2022, while the same ratio was 91.6% for the eurozone countries, according to Eurostat.
