January 4 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said it approved a 30.4% increase in the wholesale price of natural gas for January, to 133.41 levs ($77.3/68.2 euro) per MWh.
The increase is a result of rising prices on international gas markets in the period after December 10 when public gas supplier Bulgargaz proposed to EWRC to approve a 14.5% hike in the wholesale gas price to 117.12 levs per MWh, to be valid for the month of January, the energy regulator said in a statement on Saturday.
The price applicable for December was 102.33 levs per MWh.
Bulgarian energy regulations require Bulgargaz to set the gas price monthly. EWRC has the final say on the proposed changes in the wholesale price, at which the state-owned company sells natural gas to end-suppliers and customers directly connected to its transmission network.
