December 15 (SeeNews) - The combined gross premium income of Bulgaria's general insurance companies through October fell 5.9% to 1.082 billion levs ($745.1 million/553.2 million euro), official data indicated on Wednesday.
Bulgaria's general insurance market is dominated by mandatory third-party liability insurance policies for motor vehicles, which jointly accounted for 71.4% of total premiums in the first ten months of the year, the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) said in a statement.
Life insurers posted a combined gross premium income of 195.094 million levs through October, up by 10% on the year.
Bulgarian voluntary health insurers reported gross premium income of 34.55 million levs in the first ten months of 2010, up 5.0% on the year.
A total of 197,790 Bulgarians had active voluntary health insurance accounts by October 31.
