SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 21 (SeeNews) – The Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology joined the UN Global Compact Network Bulgaria, which encourages social and environmental responsibility in the private sector, civil society structures and trade unions.
UN Global Compact Network Bulgaria was launched in 2003 and has over 130 members, Senior Expert at local company Overgas Darinka Georgieva told a news conference entitled Sustainable Development of the Mineral Resources Industry: Social Responsibility, held in Sofia on Tuesday. The news conference was organised by Pari business daily. SeeNews was a media partner to the event.
“The Global Compact encourages companies to implement in their operations ten universal principles in four areas, which include environment, labour standards, human rights and fight against corruption,” Georgieva said.
UN Global Compact Network is present in 101 countries around the globe, including over 6,200 companies and another 2,800 members, Georgieva added.
