May 31 (SeeNews) - The combined net profit of the banks operating in Bulgaria increased to 454.1 million levs ($259.0 million/232.2 million euro) in the first four months of 2019 from 396.5 million in the same period a year earlier, the country's central bank said on Friday.
The banking sector's net operating income expanded to 1.24 billion levs in the January-April period, from 1.15 billion levs in the comparable period of 2018, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a regular report on the performance of the country's banks.
Interest income of Bulgarian banks grew to 1.0 billion levs in the first four months of 2019 from 963.3 million levs in the like period of last year.
Fee and commission income rose to 425.1 million levs in the period under review from 380.2 million levs a year earlier.
The banks' total assets increased to 108.5 billion levs at the end of April, from 97.8 billion levs a year earlier.
