January 26 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria will build a new checkpoint on the border with North Macedonia with 10.3 million euro ($11.6 million) in EU financing and expand an existing one on the same border, the Bulgarian regional development ministry said.
The Klepalo border checkpoint, to be located between the village on Strumyani in Bulgaria and the town of Berovo in North Macedonia, will facilitate economic cooperation and tourism, the regional development ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The construction of the adjacent roads will also benefit from EU financing, the statement added.
The regional development ministry also said that the Stanke Lisichkovo border crossing connecting the Bulgarian town of Blagoevgrad and Delchevo in N. Macedonia will be expanded in order to facilitate travel between the two countries and reduce waiting times.
Bulgaria and North Macedonia share three border checkpoints - at Stanke Lisichkovo, Guyeshevo, and Zlatarevo.
