February 8 (SeeNews) - The Bulgarian government said on Wednesday that it allocated a further 14.9 million levs ($8.18 million/7.62 million euro) to programmes for covering the costs of assistance provided to refugees from Ukraine last year.
A payment of 5.71 million levs will be made to 160 persons who provided humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees in the period from February 24 to May 31, the government said in a statement. The assistance will cover the costs of 133,879 overnight stays and meals.
The government will also pay 2.81 million levs under a programme for humanitarian assistance to displaced persons from Ukraine granted temporary protection in Bulgaria. The funds will be provided to hotel operators and other persons who accommodated refugees between November 1 and November 15. Under the same programme, a payment of 6.39 million levs will be made for the period November 16 - December 31.
In December, the government approved the payment of 7.69 million levs to cover the costs for 521,451 overnight stays in October.
