December 19 (SeeNews) - The European Commission said it is allocating additional funding of more than 65 million euro ($71 million) in total to Bulgaria, Czechia, Poland and Romania to help them deal with the influx of people fleeing Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The funds, to be granted out of the EU's Asylum Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), will be deployed to help refugees find private housing, receive financial support, language or vocational training along with access to social services and healthcare, the Commission said in a press release on Monday.
The financing is being disbursed to advance projects by government agencies, civil society organisations and international organisations in the recipient states.
At present, the EU is providing temporary protection to over 4.1 million refugees under a mechanism triggered in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The mechanism was recently extended until March 2025.
Last week, EU leaders decided to open membership talks with Ukraine and Moldova.
