January 24 (SeeNews) - The number of nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments in Bulgaria last year grew by 17.9%, more than in any other EU member state, the bloc's statistics office said on Tuesday.
Bulgaria recorded a total of 25.2 million tourist overnights in 2016, of which 16.2 million were by non-residents, Eurostat said in a press release.
In 2016, Romania had the lowest share of nights spent by non-residents in total nights spent, standing at 19%, Eurostat data showed. Out of the 25.4 million tourist overnights in the country, only 4.9 million were by non-residents.
Among the EU candidate countries, Serbia recorded the highest growth in total tourist overnights - by 13% to 7.5 million.
