July 6 (SeeNews) - AES Bulgaria said on Monday that its majority-owned St. Nikola wind farm has increased its output by an annual 28% to 198,562 MWh in the first half of 2020.
The 156 MW wind park, operated by AES Geo Energy, marked the tenth year since the start of its commercial operations in March, AES Bulgaria said in a statement.
In the first ten years of its operation, the wind farm has produced over 3.2 million MWh of electricity and saved Bulgaria some 2.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, the company said.
St. Nikola wind farm, located near the town of Kavarna on the Black Sea coast, consists of 52 turbines of 3 MW each. It was built in 2009 and commenced operations in 2010.
The total investment in the project was some 270 million euro ($305 million), of which 198 million euro was provided by a bank consortium including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Financial Corporation and UniCredit Market & Investment Banking.
AES Geo Energy is a joint venture of New York-listed power corporation AES, which holds a majority stake through AES Bulgaria, and the German Geo Power company.
AES also operates the 600 MW coal-fired power plant AES Galabovo, located in southern Bulgaria.
