September 14 (SeeNews) - The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, turned lower on Monday, reflecting a correction on the global markets, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the BVB shed 1.94% to 4,291.75 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, fell 0.78% to 23,761.26 points.
The composite BET-C index declined 1.5% to 2,520.13 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, dropped 1.99% to 9,026.33.
“Foreign markets went slightly down in a correction and that’s the reason for the pullback on our bourse. It seems to be only a correction and not a trend reversal,” one broker told SeeNews.
BVB's turnover dropped to 22 million lei ($7.5 million/5.1 million euro) from 62.7 million lei on Friday, including a deal worth 5.13 million lei with 22% of electronics retailer Flamingo International. The number of traded shares surged to 239.6 million from 83.6 million on Friday.
In regular trading Flamingo International shares soared 15% to 0.0345 lei in 570,000 lei turnover, most probably on speculation, the broker said.
“It’s not necessarily a piece of news, maybe it’s something only the speculator knows.”
SIF 5 Oltenia closed unchanged at 1.21 lei in the day's largest turnover of 4.2 million lei. SIF 2 Moldova fell 0.92% to 1.08 lei on deals worth 3.0 million lei, Monday’s second largest turnover. SIF 3 Transilvania ended 1.39% down at 0.71 lei in a 2.2 million lei turnover, the session’s third largest.
SIF 4 Muntenia shed 0.68% to 0.73 lei in turnover of 717,000 lei, and SIF 1 Banat Crisana shed 0.88% to 1.13 lei in deals worth 474,000 lei.
Blue-chip lender BRD depreciated by 3.13% to 12.4 lei in a turnover of 1.3 million lei, while Banca Transilvania ended unchanged at 1.57 lei in 473,000 lei turnover.
Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare dipped 4.24% to 0.0565 lei in deals worth 1.7 million lei, while blue-chip drug maker Biofarm slid 2.22% to 0.22 lei in a 502,000 lei turnover.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, was down 1.42% to 429.05 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, lost 1.98% to 558.14 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, edged up 0.05% to 2,113.19. Turnover on the RASDAQ decreased to 289,000 lei from 529,000 lei on Friday.
