October 11 (SeeNews) - Supermarket chain operator Billa Bulgaria, part of Germany's REWE Group, has invested over 15 million levs ($8.1 million/7.7 million euro) to replace its paper labelling system with an electronic one, reducing its paper consumption by 60%, it said on Wednesday.
All 151 stores in the retailer's network are now equipped with digital displays that replace traditional paper labels on supermarket shelves, Billa Bulgaria said in a press release.
The company began its pilot electronic display project in 2017 and gradually carried out the switchover to digital displays, starting in 2022.
The Austria-headquartered supermarket chain operator has been operating in Bulgaria since 2000 and employs more than 5,200 staff at present.
On Tuesday, Billa Bulgaria announced it will purchase renewable electricity under a long-term PPA with Bulgaria's Electrohold, the operator of the 123 MW Verila solar photovoltaic park, the largest in the country.
