February 21 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria’s sales of battery electric vehicles (EV) jumped by 50% on the year in January, to 51 units, yet the county showed the weakest annual growth among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE), the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said on Tuesday.
Among the SEE countries, Greece posted the strongest growth of 196.7%, followed by Slovenia with 125.7%, Romania with 87.9% and Croatia with 76.1%, ACEA said in a press release.

EU-wide, registrations of battery EVs increased by 22.9% to 71,984, with most of the regional markets contributing to this growth. Battery EVs' market share reached 9.5% in January, rising from 8.6% a year earlier, ACEA said.
In total, new car registrations in Bulgaria climbed by 9.8% to 2,227 in January, with petrol cars having the biggest share of 76.2%. According to the data, petrol cars registrations increased by 7.9% to 1,696 units.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle sales in Bulgaria surged by 128.6% on the year in January, to 16 units, marking the strongest growth among the EU member states in SEE.
