January 23 (SeeNews) - US online retailer Amazon said on Friday it plans to hire this year thousands of computer scientists and software development engineers in its development centres throughout Europe, including the one based in the eastern Romanian city of Iasi.
Amazon is expanding its staff across its European network of 12 research and development centres in Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the UK, the company said in a press release.
Amazon opened its development centre in Iasi, Romania in 2005 and works on developing new web site features along with building tools and technologies that enable Amazon Retail and other Amazon web sites to merchandise effectively across multiple channels.
“We’re planning to add thousands of new jobs in all areas across our European Fulfilment Network in 2016 as we ramp up to meet increased demand from customers and invent in new areas,” vice president Roy Perticucci said.
The company operates a pan EU business with over 80 corporate offices, fulfilment centres, seller and customer service centres, R&D centres, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) datacenter regions.
In 2015 Amazon created in Europe over 10,000 new permanent jobs, bringing the company’s total European workforce to over 40,000.
Amazon said it has invested over 15 billion euro ($16.3 billion) in Europe since 2010 on infrastructure and operations for fulfilment and customer service, AWS datacenter regions and research and development.
