January 4 (SeeNews) - The airport in the Albanian capital Tirana handled 7.26 million passengers in 2023, 40% more than a year earlier, the airport concessionaire, Tirana International Airport, said.
The growth in passenger numbers aligns with the airport’s strategic plans and reflects the impact of recent infrastructure investments, the airport operator said in a social media post on Wednesday.
Investment made by Albanian oil-to-construction conglomerate Kastrati Group in Tirana airport since 2021 was close to 55 million euro ($60 million) by the end of 2023, close to 50% of the initial investment plan, Kastrati Group CEO Shefqet Kastrati told local media in November.
Albania surpassed the 10 million foreign tourists milestone by the end of 2023, the ministry of tourism said last week, quoting preliminary data. In 2022, as many as 7.5 million foreign tourists visited Albania, up 33% compared with the previous year, the country’s statistical office has said.
The number of passengers served at the Tirana airport has more than doubled as compared to 2019, TIA noted.
