May 23 (SeeNews) - The Albanian government opened a 50 million leks ($486,000/450,000 euro) tender for an advisor to draft a detailed design for an 8.5 km road linking the eastern city of Librazhd to a border checkpoints with North Macedonia, it said.
The consultant will conduct environmental, social and economic studies to determine the potential consequences of the project and draft a detailed design, tender documents published on the public procurement agency site on Friday showed. The job should be done within 18 months from the announcement of a winner.
The tender applications should be submitted by June 21.
The road section will start at the Qukes-Shkumbin village in Librazhd and run along the Bushtrica river valley, providing an alternative to an existing Corridor 8 section which crosses through a number of villages and towns.
On May 19, the government initiated a tender for another segment, the Elbasan-Lekaj highway section, which links Corridor 8 to the Adriatic – Ionian Corridor, a highway that will intersect Italy’s Trieste to Greece’s Kalamata, running along the entire eastern shore of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
Corridor 8, a significant pan-European land transport route, extends from Durres in Albania, passing through Elbasan, and spanning across North Macedonia, ultimately reaching the city of Varna situated along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
