February 5 (SeeNews) - Chinese technology producer Xiaomi will invest $30 million (25 million euro) in the opening of a new plant for production of smartphones in Turkey's Istanbul, Turkish media reported.
The plant, which is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2021, will create some 2,000 jobs, Daily Sabah reported earlier this week.
The factory is being commissioned with the cooperation of Salcomp - a Finland-based manufacturer of chargers for mobile phones and other electronic devices. The manufacturing facility will spread on approximately 14,000 sq m and will have the capacity to produce 5 million mobile phones per year.
Turkey is the fourth country where the technology company will start production, Daily Sabah quoted Usher Liu, country manager at Xiaomi Turkey, as saying.
Beijing-headquartered Xiaomi is currently the world’s fourth-largest smartphone brand. Its products are present in more than 80 countries and regions around the world and have a leading foothold in many of them, according to information published in the company's LinkedIn profile.
