BELGRADE (Serbia), June 29 (SeeNews) – Serbian wireless carrier Vip Mobile, a unit of Telekom Austria Group, said it plans to extend its 4G network throughout Serbia and cover 75% of its population by the end of 2016.
After adding the southern municipality of Leskovac to its 4G grid, Vip plans to introduce the signal to over 10 municipalities by end-2016 and up the number of cities it services to over 70, the company said in a statement late last week.
Vip introduced its 4G network in April last year and has invested some 75 million euro ($83 million) into its development in 2015.
Earlier this year, Vip also launched the country's first 4G+ signal.
In Serbia, a country of 7.3 million people, Vip Mobile competes with state-owned MTS and the local arm of Norway's Telenor.
Besides Vip Mobile, the wireless operations of Telekom Austria Group include Bulgaria's Mobiltel, Belarusian telco Velcom, Mobilkom Austria, Croatia's Vipnet, Slovenia's Si.mobil and Macedonia's Vip Operator.
