August 7 (SeeNews) - Italian banking group UniCredit said on Tuesday its Romanian unit posted a 31% year-on-year increase in first half pre-tax profit to 74 million euro ($85.5 million).
UniCredit Bank generated an operating income of 190 million euro in January-June, up 1.8% on the year, the lender's parent, Italy's UniCredit Group, said in a quarterly financial report.
The Romanian unit's net interest income rose 17.5% year-on-year to 123 million euro, while net fees and commissions dropped by 18.7% to 34 million euro in the six months through June.
Deposits rose by 18.5% year-on-year to 5.864 billion euro, while loans grew 6.8%, reaching 5.839 billion euro at the end of June.
UniCredit operated 139 branches in Romania as of end-June, serving more than 600,000 customers.
