September 27 (SeeNews) - Turkish on-demand delivery startup Getir has started offering its services in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona, Ankara-based media reported.
The Turkish company has further rollout plans across Spain in the coming months, Anadolu Agency said earlier this month.
"The bet on the Spanish market is strong: Getir will start with 19 G-stores in total in Madrid and Barcelona," Anadolu Agency quoted the company as saying.
In July, Getir took over Spain-based online grocery startup BLOK in a deal marking its first inorganic growth investment. The purchase provides Getir with immediate access to Spain and Italy, with Portugal soon to follow, making it active in seven of the largest markets across Europe, the Turkish company said at the time.
The deal for BLOK came around a month after Getir raised $500 million (427.1 million euro) in a Series D funding round that valued it at more than $7.5 billion, or three times its valuation in the previous round.
Established in 2015, Getir is a technology company that operates in retail and logistics. It has sub-brands including GetirFood, GetirMore, GetirWater and GetirLocals. In addition to being present in 33 cities in Turkey, it also launched operations in London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris earlier in 2021.
