November 6 (SeeNews) - Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the government plans to build at least 1.5 million dwellings over the next five years for people who lost their homes in the recent earthquake that hit the western province of Izmir, local media reported.
The country has reserved an area of 1.4 million square metres for the new housing units, Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying on Thursday.
The citizens whose houses were destroyed in the quake will be settled in 1,000 container units until the reconstruction starts, Erdogan said.
A total of 114 people were killed and more than 1,000 were wounded in the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that hit Izmir last week.
