December 1 (SeeNews) - Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the authorities will introduce a curfew from 9 pm to 5 am from Monday to Friday to slow the spread of the coronavirus disease, local media reported.
Turkey will also impose a weekend curfew that will prevent citizens from leaving their homes from 9 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday, Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying on Monday.
Industries such as production, supply, health, and agriculture, as well as shops that provide home delivery services will be exempt from the curfews which take effect on Tuesday, December 1.
Under the new tougher restrictions, visitors of shopping malls will have to present their HES codes on entry. HES code is a personal code that shows the infection status through a mobile phone application developed by Turkey's health ministry.
People who are 20 or younger and those over 65 are prohibited from using public transportation. House gatherings and celebrations will be banned, day care centres will be closed and restaurants will offer only delivery services, Erdogan said.
Turkey confirmed 31,219 Covid-19 cases and 188 deaths due to Covid-19 on Monday, bringing the total count to 500,865 patients, including 13,746 deaths.
