March 25 (SeeNews) - Tourist arrivals in Croatia rose 8.8% to 155,820 in January with overnights up 9.5% to 396,707, the country's statistics agency said.
Tourism is a key industry for Croatia, accounting for around a fifth of the country's gross domestic product.
A total of 52.6% overnight stays were realised by foreign tourists in January, data from the Croatian statistics agency shows.
Croatia's biggest feeder markets in January were Italy with 16.3%, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 10.4%, Slovenia 9.9%, Austria 9.5%, Germany 8.7%, the Republic of Korea 7.1% and Serbia with 4.2%.
In January, the highest number of overnight stays, 247,021 or 62.3%, were realised in hotels.
In 2015, tourist arrivals in Zagreb city and on Croatia's Adriatic coast rose 8.3% to 14.2 million in 2015, while overnights increased 6.8% to 78.6 million.
