BELGRADE (Serbia), February 20 (SeeNews) – Telenor said on Monday its network in Serbia serviced more than half of the country's mobile internet traffic in the third quarter of 2016.
Out of a mobile Internet traffic of 11.5 million GB in the third quarter of 2016, more than 5.9 million GB was generated by Telenor customers, the Norwegian telecommunications group company said in a statement.
“With a total of over 4,500 base stations, each having 3G and 4G technology, we are proud that Telenor is the biggest mobile internet network,’’ the CTO of Telenor Serbia, Kai Gulbrandsen, said in the statement.
In next five months, Telenor will enable the usage of the fastest Internet by 80% of the Serbian population, provided by a total of 1,600 4G base stations, the company said.
In January, Telenor said it plans to invest 30 million euro ($31.9 million) in the development of its network in Serbia in 2017, focusing on the expansion of its 4G network in towns with more than 3,500 inhabitants.
Telenor said on Thursday the combined operating profit of its units in Serbia and Montenegro fell 12.9% to 786 million Norwegian crowns ($95.9 million/88.8 million euro) in 2016.
Elsewhere in Southeastern Europe (SEE), Telenor Group also operates in Bulgaria.
