September 27 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's total turnover from electronic communication services decreased 5.7% on the year to 1.1 billion euro ($1.3 billion) in 2016, with the highest share or 31% generated by public mobile telephone services, the country's statistics agency said on Wednesday.
Turnover from public mobile telephone services dropped 5.8% on the year to 334.1 million euro, while turnover from public fixed telephone networks amounted to 240 million euro, down 10.3%. Turnover from interconnection services reached 101 million euro, up 18.2%, while other turnover, including sales of broadband internet, fell 7.5% to 402 million euro, the statistics agency said in a statement.
At the end of 2016, there were 15 fixed network operators and six mobile network operators on the Slovenian market, down from 17 and seven, respectively, in 2015. Cable and satellite service providers dropped to 52 last year from 56 a year earlier, while three internet providers ceased operations since 2015, bringing the figure to 62 at end-December.
The value of investments in electronic communication services in 2016 amounted to 216 million euro and compared to 2015 increased by 14%.
In 2016, 5,450 people were employed in electronic communication services, which is 3% fewer than a year earlier.
