LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), April 28 (SeeNews) – Telekom Austria Group said that earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of its wireless unit in Slovenia, Si.mobil, decreased 75% on the year to 6.5 million euro ($7.4 million) in the first quarter of 2016.
Si.mobil’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) dropped 57% on the year to 14 million euro in the first quarter, Telekom Austria said in a financial report.
Revenues fell by 28.7% to 51.7 million euro due to a positive extraordinary effect in the amount of 20 million euro in January 2015 related to an agreement on settling mutual relations and business collaboration with Telekom Slovenije.
Capital expenditures in Slovenia fell 15.7% to 3.6 million euro in the three months through March.
In the first quarter of 2016, the number of Si.mobil customers rose by 4.9% year-on-year due to an increase in contract subscribers following successful Christmas offers for the residential segment, Telekom Austria said. The contract share thus rose to 81%, compared to 79.9% in the same period last year. Total fixed revenue generating units amounted to 159,700 in the first quarter of 2016, the telco noted.
Si.mobil competes with Slovenia's largest cellphone operator, Mobitel, a unit of state-owned Telekom Slovenije, T-2, Debitel, Izi Mobil and Tusmobil.
Besides Si.mobil, the wireless operations of Telekom Austria Group include Velcom in Belarus, Mobilkom Austria, Bulgaria's Mobiltel, Croatia’s Vipnet, Serbia's Vip Mobile and Macedonia's Vip Operator.
