September 5 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's Novo Mesto has signed a deal with Telekom Slovenije and technology company SAP Slovenija to introduce a Smart City system, which is expected to increase the quality of life of its citizens by implementing solutions provided by the Internet of Things (IoT), the municipal government said.
Within the framework of the project, Telekom Slovenije and SAP will develop advanced solutions in Novo Mesto for air quality measurements, automatic readings of water and energy consumption, smart street lighting and monitoring of the occupancy of public car parks, the municipal government said in a statement on Tuesday.
The system will also allow for the local government to monitor citizen satisfaction.
Smart cities use IoT to connect, manage, and optimize city infrastructures. IoT is the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.
Novo Mesto is located in southeastern Slovenia and has a population of just over 23,000.
